Kundalini meditation is a form of Yoga that focuses on the energy which flows up and down the spine. In Eastern ideologies, this Kundalini energy is represented as a serpent coiled at the base of the spine. The purpose of practicing Kundalini meditation is to focus on that energy in order to bring oneself to a higher state of consciousness and self realization.
This energy is all around us and it does not distinguish between good and bad, positive or negative. It is a neutral force that can be used to heal and create a sense of lifelong well-being when meditation is practiced correctly.
What is the process of Kundalini Awakening?
Kundalini energy works through the Chakras to bring about self actualization and enlightenment, otherwise known as Shakti. As you begin the process of meditation, your Kundalini energy begins to make its way up your spinal column and opens up each Chakra one by one. This process can happen in a matter of minutes, but reaping the benefits of the process can take years.
Each Chakra has a number of life lessons to be learned, and depending on such factors as your own life experiences, emotional maturity and spiritual involvement some lessons may be more of a challenge to learn than others. Whatever your situation may be, the reward of a clearer conscience and closer relationship with the Universe is worth it. Here are few of the benefits of Kundalini meditation:
Spiritual Growth
Awakening your Kundalini energy is a fast track to getting in touch with your spiritual nature. Many people who start a Kundalini meditation practice, report feeling a deeper connection with the Universe and humanity as a whole. For those who have previously not had a spiritual connection in their lives, they may feel compelled to seek out a form of spirituality that speaks to them and practice it.
Physical Fitness
Kundalini Yoga is not only the most spiritually based meditation practices but, is also one of the most physical. Kundalini meditation consists of performing certain Kriyas (Yoga positions) which correspond to Chakras in the body. Performing these Kriyas during meditation helps to activate and strengthen the corresponding Chakra while also giving your body the physical benefit of losing weight and building muscle.
Improved Thinking and Well Being
Meditation of any kind will improve your thinking, but it is even more so with Kundalini meditation. As you meditate, you will begin to free yourself of the negative thought patterns that many of us have developed over our lives. Clearing the mind of useless clutter also allows for clearer thinking and the ability to take situations and the world into a more even perspective rather than one that is skewed by outside influences.
Whatever your level of practice is now, engaging in a Kundalini meditation practice can benefit you in many ways. The most important thing to keep in mind is to have an open mind and heart, as you open your Chakras and begin to gain insight into your own being, your spirituality will follow.
