Work Out and Like It!

If you've never worked out consistently and you're over the age of 15, you probably hate working out as much as I hate doing taxes. People say they just loooove to work out and it's hard to believe them. How do you love being in discomfort and pain??? But people who actually do love it aren't lying; they really truly love to feel the challenge. But they didn't always.

Have you ever known someone who met a person they initially didn't like, only to fall madly in love with them once they got to know them? Maybe you were that person and you laugh thinking about the time you said you'd NEVER give Bill/Tom/Bob the time of day. But you did, and now you're beyond happily married to him and can't imagine your life without him. It's the same with exercise. It grows on you (as you grow smaller) and eventually gets you hooked. The only caveat is you have to give it time and consistency.

The good news is everyone. EVERYONE. experiences this addiction. I've known women who were hooked on eating fast food and sitting all day who are now avid runners hooked on grilled vegetables and chia seeds. Not joking, it happens to everyone who puts in the little bit of consistency over a little bit of time. How much time exactly? Usually around 6-8 weeks of 5 workouts per week. That might sound grueling, but you get used to it and start to crave it.

It doesn't just became a habit; it becomes a part of you that you can't live without.
If you want to be one of those people who loooove to work out, just commit 30 whole minutes to doing something active everyday. You can take 2 days in between to rest at first, then reduce it to one (my rest day is Sunday, but I still like to do something mildly active).

Just don't make the same mistake most people make: waiting until you like working out to start working out consistently. Like anything else, you'll hate it at first. You'll probably hate it for a while. That's okay, you shouldn't care how you feel about something you intellectually know is good for you while you're feeling negatively about it. If your child told you he hates washing his hands, you wouldn't really care that he feels this way about it. It's predictable for him to feel this way at first, but then he'll stop hating it. So if you hate working out at first, you shouldn't care that you feel that way. You won't always hate it.

Be disciplined for 6-8 weeks nonstop, and your workouts will go from feeling like punishment to a reward.
